Tottenham Hotspur have made a slow start to their 2024/25 season, and the pressure is rising on Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou; however, an interesting claim about the former Celtic coach has been made in regards to Manchester United amid his recent Spurs struggles.
The Greek-born coach took over the reins at Hotspur Way at the commencement of the previous season, and he guided the Lilywhites to a narrow Champions League finish race, although Spurs ended up settling on a Europa League spot. There was much criticism coming Ange’s way after Tottenham missed multiple opportunities to overtake Aston Villa for the top four spot in the previous campaign.
Now this season didn’t start with a rocket boost as well, and things turned worse after a five-game winning streak when the Lilywhites gave away a 2-0 lead only for Brighton to come back and win the game with a 3-2 scoreline.
Agbonlahor backs Postecoglou for Man Utd job
Despite such problems, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor insists that the Australian head coach would ‘100%’ improve Manchester United’s current status. He insists that Ange plays an attractive brand of football, which would be a big improvement when compared to what the Manchester Reds are playing under Erik ten Hag.

Speaking on Give Me Sport, Gabriel Agbonlahor said:
“Oh 100%. If Ange Postecoglou was manager of Manchester United, they’d be in the top four this season. No doubt. Because they lack organization, they lack an identity, they lack a style of play. They lack phases of play when you watch them. They don’t look like a team that have been coached on the training ground.
“Spurs know what they’re doing. Getting it to your number 10s. Get it out to your winger. Number 10s make their runs into the box. They’re a joy to watch. Manchester United are [coached by] old school managers, maybe I played under, go out there and then and do your jobs today, lads.
“You can see Ange Postecoglou will go to Manchester United and he’d have an identity.”
Ange Postecoglou has taken significant strides in his short stint in charge at White Hart Lane, and his emphasis on playing attacking football has resonated with the supporters at N17. Despite the pressure off late, you’d expect Ange to turn things around at Spurs and get back on track for Champions League qualification.
