Tottenham Hotspur central-defender Cristian Romero has been subject to links with a move away from White Hart Lane in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Argentine CB has been an integral part of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad and is the vice captain of the side.
His partnership with Micky van de Ven in the heart of the defence has been pivotal for the Lilywhites, and their understanding has escalated the duo to one of the best central defensive partnerships in the English top tier. And Romero’s performances have attracted interest from Real Madrid in the recently concluded summer transfer window; however, no move materialised despite aggressive links.
Tottenham fends off Romero interest
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now provided a fresh update surrounding the World Cup winner’s future at N17. He insists that multiple elite clubs expressed interest in landing the £165,000 per week defender, though Daniel Levy’s stance was clear that Romero is not touchable. He also encouraged that there is no €65 million release clause in his contract, contrary to the reports.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Romano said:
“There’s NO €65m release clause into Cuti Romero’s contract at Spurs despite reports from Argentina. Tottenham considered him untouchable last summer despite interest from top clubs.”
The good news is, it would be difficult to price away Cristian Romero from Tottenham unless a hefty bid were to arrive. And despite the recent dip in form, the quality that the possesses is extra-ordinary, one that Ange can build his team around.
