Well here is a story that has been told time and time again. Germany — or Bayern Munich — dominates in every statistical category but the one that counts.
This time at least Die Mannschaft pulled out the result in a 2-1 UEFA Nations League group stage win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. But as Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann explained after the match, it should not have been that close. From expected goals to shots to possession to big chances missed…on another day, the Germans would have run away with it.
Boy, it is easier to make these observations in a game that still goes down as a victory, isn’t it? Bosnia and Herzegovina missed a big chance of their own so there was always a chance for a different result, but the Germans — with Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel (currently spending another season at VfB Stuttgart) in goal — just about held on.
