After Bayern Munich’s 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, fans and pundits debated exactly what went wrong.
Looking at the bigger picture of Bayern Munich’s last three games, it is hard to not be at least a little worried about the performances of center-backs Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.
CBS analyst Ian Paul Joy was among the many who expressed growing concern with how things are going.
In the post-match studio commentary after that game, Joy cited Bayern’s offensive production — the Bavarians had 777 completed passes and “dominated” the game on the ball.
“Three goals away from home should be enough,” he said before turning the fire on Bayern’s center-back pairing, Upamecano and Kim — who actually scored the Bavarians’ two opening goals.
“Embarrassing,” Joy added of the two’s defensive mistakes on the day, and studio co-host Adam Hunt agreed, calling Upamecano “far too slow” and “turned for pace” by Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.
Does Vincent Kompany need to change his approach or are shambolic performances from key Bayern Munich players to blame for a recent slide in results?
