Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané will see his contract expire after this season and if he does not re-up with the Bavarians, it could turn into a bidding war between Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, and Newcastle United:
Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly both interested in signing Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sané next year.
There is currently huge uncertainty surrounding the Germany international’s future at Allianz Arena, as his current contract is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Discussions between Sané and Bayern over a possible new deal are said to have stalled, which could lead to him leaving the Munich giants on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
As it stands, foreign clubs will be able to speak to Sané in January, and according to Fichajes, both Arsenal and Chelsea are exploring the possibility of bringing him back to the Premier League.
The report claims that Newcastle United are also in the mix, although the Magpies will likely need to secure European action for next season to stand a chance of winning the race for Sané.
Sané’s status will be something to follow in the coming months. At one point, it felt like it would be a shoo-in for Sané and Bayern Munich to extend their relationship. Now…there is at least a little bit of doubt.
Contrary to some reports, Liverpool FC center-back Virgil Van Djik might actually want a contract extension with the club:
Virgil van Dijk has told friends and family he is keen to extend his time at Liverpool, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Well, that was easy. While it wasn’t a 5-0 drubbing like the Hungary game during the last international break, Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany side demonstrated their superiority while barely allowing Bosnia and Herzegovina an inch.
In this episode, we discuss the following:
- The lineup that Julian Nagelsmann picked, and the absence of a certain Bayern Munich player.
- Deniz Undav may be the striker that Germany are looking for.
- How a terrible pitch kept Germany from playing their game.
- Why you can say “a win’s a win” after this one.
- Alexander Nübel didn’t exactly cover himself in glory, but that’s not the point.
- Why games like these clog up the calendar and are simply ridiculous.
The rumors about a schism between FC Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong have been going on for a couple of years now. Is this actually the time that they might be legit? Maybe:
Barcelona could let Frenkie de Jong leave in the summer to avoid losing the midfielder leave on a free transfer when his contract ends in 2026, reports Diario Sport.
There are debates about whether or not the 27-year-old Netherlands international has lived up to the lofty expectations placed upon him when he arrived from Ajax Amsterdam in 2019, and those are arising again now that he is returning from injury. Having been out since April, De Jong made his return off the bench during the 5-0 win over Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League and followed that up with another substitute appearance in a 3-0 LaLiga victory against Alaves.
He still won’t be going away on international duty, which gives him more time to get up to speed. Once he does, there will be discussions about who should start in important matches, with midfielders Marc Casadó and Pedri having impressed so far this term.
De Jong’s situation is said to be “delicate” in this sense, as he has always been seen as an indisputable presence in the team whenever fit. Questions to be answered will include whether he is compatible with Pedri and Dani Olmo, whether he is a better pivot than Casadó, and what his best position is to get the most out of him.
Manchester City is looking to freshen up its goalkeeper position and could make a run at Porto’s Diogo Costa:
Manchester City are lining up Porto’s Diogo Costa as a potential replacement for Ederson if the Brazilian goalkeeper leaves the Etihad Stadium after a turbulent summer.
Conversely, Fabrizio Romano says Stefan Ortega is not going anywhere:
However, the Cityzens have no intention of letting understudy Stefan Ortega leave during the January transfer window.
Bayern Munich is on break, but that does not mean that there is not a lot to talk about.
We have a lot to discuss on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show, so let’s get right down to it:

Liverpool FC wants to bring in a new attacker — and could lose Dominik Szoboszlai in the process:
Having already linked Eberechi Eze with Tottenham Hotspur, Football Insider reports that Liverpool want to sign the Crystal Palace attacking midfielder as a potential replacement for Dominik Szoboszlai. They feel that the 26-year-old is more creative and has a better end product.
Kai Havertz has had a solid season so far for Arsenal FC, but the club is still not fully bought into the Germany international’s stronghold on the position:
Arsenal still want to pursue the signing of a new striker in January despite the impressive form of Kai Havertz up front.
Well, Bayern Munich is on break, so that means that the German national team takes center stage for the time being.
What better way to dive into what is going on with the squad and its preparation for the upcoming games than with the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show?
