The Kopa Trophy will be awarded this month, and Paris Saint-Germain have a couple of players nominated, the most prominent being João Neves.
Furthermore, one player believes the 20-year-old should be the favorite to win the award. Last season, Neves became a prominent player for SL Benfica, where he made 55 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese side.
Neves scored three goals and recorded two assists with Benfica, and his performances earned him a place in Portugal’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024. It wasn’t the ideal tournament for him since he only made two appearances for the Portuguese side.
Moreover, Lamine Yamal would perform well for Spain as they won Euro 2024 this past summer. As a result, the Barcelona standout is the favorite to win the Kopa Trophy this year. Still, Famalicão youngster Gustavo Sá believes Neves should win the award over Yamal.
“We’re friends, and I think he’s an outstanding player,” Sá told Tuttosport (h/t Le10Sport). “Yes, Yamal is younger and had an amazing European Championship, but considering the continuity between Benfica and PSG, I believe João deserves it more.”
Yamal should win the award, but it will be interesting to see where Neves finishes in the voting.
