Pat Nevin is without question a Chelsea favourite – a much loved player, pundit and general nice presence around the club who people like to hear from.
Now he’s not got a column for the club website one hears from him less – but he can also be a little more open with his thoughts. After a bright start to the season for the Blues, the former winger is as positive as you’d expect:
“Enzo Maresca has started well,” Nevin said in quotes featured in the Metro.
“He’s got a more stable-looking squad and style which wasn’t there before. At the start of the season, I predicted top four for Chelsea which not many people went for but the basics are there now and they’ve got that quality in the squad.”
Nevin names players yet to make their mark
Nevin also picked out two players who have yet to make much of an impact who he thinks could go on to play a major role. One is a big name, the other is a more surprising choice:
“I’m a massive fan of Joao Felix. He’s kind of been dismissed a bit by a lot of people but don’t dismiss him. He needs to get a better run in the first team, perhaps when they need cover for Cole Palmer. There’s no doubt he’ll prove people wrong.
“If you look further around that team, people like Dewsbury-Hall have not even got a game yet and he’s great, a really, super player. He showed that in the Conference League a few weeks back and he surely needs more chances soon.”
Both will get their chances, that’s for sure. The season is long and despite a pretty fortunate start in terms of injuries, there will come a time when the squad is stretched to its limits.
