Vincent Kompany may have a no-holds barred approach to playing intensity, but the Bayern Munich head coach is keeping an even keel ahead of this week’s momentous Champions League clash vs. FC Barcelona.
In a matchup rich with history and crossover between the two storied clubs, Kompany sees little to distinguish it from…well, any other game.
“My mentality is simply that every game is just as important as Barcelona and every game is just as special. We are playing against Barcelona now and it’s important because that’s our next game. But when we play against Bochum after that, then I’m just as excited about that game,” Kompany said in his preview comments, as captured by ransport journalist Martin Volkmar (via @iMiaSanMia). “We are Bayern Munich, we always have to try to win. Of course, Barcelona is a traditional club and this is a traditional game. But that’s why we are in this competition, because we like games like that”
Just another day at the office, then. Can the Bavarians keep their cool and dispatch a very strong Barça team — now led by former Bayern greats Hansi Flick and Robert Lewandowski? ◆
