One former Manchester United player says he is surprised that Chelsea have not upgraded in one position and believed they would have done in the summer.
I think actually many people and especially Chelsea fans, were expecting the club to upgrade in this one position in the summer as well.
EXCLUSIVE! Barcelona eyeing Chelsea midfielders, Blues could capitalise on their interest in Barca defender – and also now eyeing Benfica centre back!
Chelsea did sign Filip Jorgensen of course, but we have yet to really see if he is going to have enough to be the club number one, and you can’t exactly say that he is an elite level option that they signed in. He could come good of course, like many other ‘raw’ signings they have made over the last couple of seasons. But he is not a player who you can say is an established and proven player yet, which is surely what you need for the most important position on the pitch, in goal?
Robert Sanchez continues to face criticism from fans, pundits, and the media alike. Jamie Carragher believes that if Chelsea want to win a title then they need to replace Sanchez.
Carragher is certainly not the only person saying this.
Howard surprised Chelsea didn’t upgrade on Sanchez
Tim Howard, who played in the Premier League for Manchester United and Everton between 2003 and 2016, was asked on NBC Sport’s coverage of the Liverpool game on Sunday if Chelsea needed a new goalkeeper and replied: “Yeah, oh yeah. I thought they were going to upgrade in the summer but they haven’t.”
Chelsea seem to be sticking with Sanchez for now though and backing their decision. But you wonder how many more mistakes and poor games from the stopper that the club and Enzo Maresca will put up with.
Jorgensen is waiting in the wings for a chance to step up, and surely they will soon need to go into the goalkeeper market again?
