Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergiy Palkin has revealed that Manchester City are “interested” in attacking midfielder Georgiy Sudakov.
Speaking before Sudakov played against Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, Palkin said:
“Manchester City is interested in him, and other clubs from England are also watching him. I’m sure several clubs will make offers for him during the transfer window.”
Reports over the past few weeks have suggested Shakhtar would demand a similar fee for Sudakov that Chelsea paid for Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Blues shelled out an initial initial €70m (£62m) in January 2023, with an additional €30m (£27m) in add-ons. However, other sources have indicated that Sudakov’s asking price is £60m.
Several Premier League clubs have been linked with Sudakov
In addition to City, the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Brighton have also been credited with an interest in the Ukrainian international.
Palkin’s remarks seem to confirm that there are a number of English teams who are keen on buying Sudakov either in January or at the end of the season.
City may need to strengthen in midfield
There is increasing speculation that Keven De Bruyne will leave the Etihad when his contract expires next summer.
In addition to claims that Saudi Pro League teams are set to revive their interest in the Belgian, it has also been suggested in recent days that De Bruyne could move to the United States.
San Diego FC will become an MLS franchise at the start of next year and it is believed that the 33-year-old has been offered a contract to make the switch across the pond.
If De Bruyne does leave, a replacement may need to be found, and City’s scouts appear to have identified Sudakov as a possible option.
