Newcastle United are set to play host to West Ham United in the Premier League on Monday night.
West Ham are in real need of a big result up on Tyneside, but we’re all well aware of how difficult it will be to beat Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Julen Lopetegui‘s side are currently sitting in 14th spot in the Premier League table, having taken just 12 points from our opening 11 games.
The Spaniard faces the sack if we lose our next two games, and all is clearly not well at the London Stadium right now.
The Hammers head coach has failed to oversee any kind of progress, and it could be argued that we’ve actually regressed as a team since his arrival.
Sure, we’ve had some difficult fixtures, but the performances have been well below the levels required for success.
There is no plan and West Ham lack any kind of footballing identity.
Next up is a trip to the North East to take on the Toon, and I don’t fancy our chances at all if I’m being honest.
Newcastle ready for war ahead of West Ham Premier League showdown
Playing Newcastle on a Monday night is going to be incredibly difficult for us, with 50,000 Geordies in full voice.
Now though, it seems like the Hammers have made our task of winning the match even harder than it needed to be.
That’s because the West Ham admin team have posted a bizarre message on their official website about Monday’s opponents.
The preview made a weird claim about Newcastle’s season so far:
“Eddie Howe’s side finished seventh last season, narrowly missing out on European qualification after Manchester United won the FA Cup, and a relatively slow start to this campaign means they face an uphill task to break into the top six, even at this early stage.“
What a bizarre thing to suggest, mainly because the Magpies are currently sitting in eighth in the Premier League table, just one point adrift of third placed Chelsea.
They have won their last three games in all competitions, are one of the most in-form teams in the league right now, and are in the process of welcoming back some of their best players from injury.
Newcastle players will be ready for West Ham now
I would suggest that Newcastle are actually in a great position to finish inside the top six this season.
The other annoying thing about the official website posting that statement is that it will only serve to motivate the Newcastle players ahead of the game.
Sometimes, the Hammers do some really silly things as a club, whether that is on the pitch or behind the scenes.
And the pre-match briefing on the official West Ham website ahead of the Newcastle clash was just utterly pointless if you ask me.
Why give the Toon an advantage that they don’t actually need?
Going to St James’ Park and winning in our current situation will already be a nigh on impossible task, and now we’ve just made things harder for ourselves.
It’s just bizarre behaviour from a Premier League football club if you ask me.
