The Alphonso Davies contract situation has been a dragged out affair to say the least. If you are already bored of it, then strap up because there is still lots more to come.
The Canadian left-back has been an ongoing subject to a transfer away from the Bavarian giants, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United showing serious interest throughout the last transfer window.
Ultimately, as the transfer window came to a close, Davies stayed put and remains a Bayern player.
A sign of commitment, or purposefully running down a contract that runs through to the end of the season? Tough to tell.
However, the latest from @sportbild and @bild reporter, Tobi Altschäffl (according to @iMiaSanMia), suggest that there is still a large gap to bridged if Alphonso Davies is to remain in Bavaria.
Bayern are still open to extending Alphonso Davies’ contract, but on two conditions: the player has to lower his demands and has to ‘restrain’ his agent Nick Huoseh. The agent has fallen out of favour at Säbener Straße. Uli Hoeneß said during a meeting that Huoseh ‘doesn’t even know that there’s air in the ball’
Bayern’s last offer for Davies was worth €13m fixed plus bonuses per year. Davies and his agent demanded €16m plus bonuses in addition to a €15m signing fee. Real Madrid and Manchester United are interested
The relationship between Nick Huoseh, Davies’ agent, and Bayern may be in tatters, however, it wouldn’t be the first time Die Rekordmeister have had to deal with a difficult agent.
While the agent-club relationship is inconvenient, if Davies really wants to stay at Bayern, a compromise will surely be found between the two camps.
On to the numbers. At first glance, the two camps don’t seem to be far off in terms of wage demands, but the €15m signing fee says otherwise.
Bayern Munich hasn’t exactly been willing to splash out wage money willy-nilly (Matthijs De Ligt being a prime example) and I wouldn’t anticipate that changing with Phonzie.
The last thing to consider is potentially the most frightening: Real Madrid.
Los Blancos’ interest in Davies is likely the crux behind his contract situation. When the 15 time Champions League winners come calling, one does not simply ignore them. I suspect the 23-year-old will not be ignoring the efforts to lure him to Madrid.
One could make a case that Davies’ has cleaned up his game this season, showing a balance and maturity that he previously lacked, showing a commitment to Bayern and making him worth the effort to keep. On the contrary, I do get a stronger feeling that the Roadrunner is making an extra effort to display what he has to offer to angle for a move to Madrid rather than a contract extension with Bayern.
At the moment, Davies’ future is not set in stone, with plenty room for more drama, this is a topic for Bayern fans to keep a keen eye on.
