Former Blue Jason Cundy has highlighted what he believes to be an emerging pattern for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca this season.
Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the summer having guided Leicester to the Championship title last season and signed a five year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have certainly taken a gamble in appointing the 44-year-old, but he’s shown he’s ready to step up and has overseen a good start to the season for the Blues.
Cundy on what he’s noticed about Chelsea under Maresca
The Blues currently sit seventh in the league having slipped to their second defeat of the campaign against Liverpool last weekend, although Maresca believes his side dominated and controlled the game.
Chelsea have plenty of attacking power and are currently the third highest scorers in the division, with only Tottenham and Manchester City scoring more goals than them so far.
A lack of leadership and experience in Chelsea’s young squad could be an issue and Maresca recently spoke about the club not having any proper leaders.
However, there are clear signs of improvement from last season, and Maresca has already managed to implement a clear style of play at this early stage.
Cundy has been impressed with Chelsea and believes the Blues look much better coached under the Italian.
“You can only beat what’s it front of you,” he told talkSPORT as quoted by The Chelsea Chronicle.
“I’ll tell you what you can see, we’re well coached. That is something that is becoming more and more obvious how well coached we are.”
Cundy isn’t wrong and the Blues are much more enjoyable to watch this season, with the players adapting well to what Maresca is asking of them.
Qualifying for the top four is the bare minimum this season and the Blues have shown with their performances so far they are capable of doing it, but they will need to improve over the course of the season in order to achieve it.
