Mykhailo Mudryk has been speaking about Chelsea and believes talent isn’t enough to succeed at Stamford Bridge.
Mudryk arrived at Chelsea from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for an initial £62.5m, but has struggled to make an impact at the club.
The Blues have been accused of not knowing how to use the winger properly, but there are recent signs that he is improving.
Mudryk on what it takes to succeed at Chelsea
The 23-year-old failed to register a goal contribution in his first six months at the club, but there was some improvement last season with Mudryk scoring seven goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.
The arrival of Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix has lead to increased competition in the wide areas and Mudryk has only started one Premier League game this season, and was substituted at half time.
Maresca has been critical of Mudryk in the media, but in his recent performances he’s shown signs of improvement and scored his first goal of the season against Panathinaikos on Thursday night in the Conference League.
The winger has got so much talent and ability, but it’s yet to fully come together for him at Chelsea although the improvement he’s made from the start of the season is clear.
Mudryk has been speaking about Chelsea and revealed he believes talent alone isn’t enough to succeed in west London.
“Chelsea is a club that is always aiming for the biggest results and getting to the greatest places in many tournaments. Talent ain’t enough. If you want to succeed you have to work hard and be patient,” he said as cited on X.com.
Mudryk isn’t wrong and he knows better than any about being patient given he’s had to wait for his opportunities, but he’s now starting to take them and is giving Maresca food for thought in terms of forcing his way into getting Premier League minutes.
Whether Mudryk succeeds at Chelsea remains to be seen, but all he can do is keep working hard and make the most of the opportunities given to him.
