Vincent Kompany’s attacking philosophy has come under fire this season, and while not the same caliber of opponent, Bayern Munich managed to bounce back from its defeat to FC Barcelona with a resounding victory over VfL Bochum.
After the match, Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia) spoke about the flow of the game, saying, “It was a game we took very seriously. We lost here twice in the past three years, so there was no underestimating of the opponent. We conceded a big chance in the first half but I liked the fact that we stayed calm. Bochum were ready, pressed us high and went for the duels. They made a few fouls but as an ex-defender myself I can appreciate that. We did our job from the first to the last minute. I’m happy with the result and the goals. We just want to continue like this.”
Bayern will look to carry the highs of this performance into their next string of games. With matches against Mainz, Union Berlin, Benfica, St. Pauli, and Augsburg on the horizon, the team from Munich should have sufficient time to solidify a working system before facing Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League.
