Like many people, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl looks down at the lineup during each game day and probably wonders when the day will come for Leroy Sané to make his return to the starting XI.
As it turns out, the only thing standing between Sané and that moment is the play of Michael Olise. Olise, who scored on a free kick during Bayern Munich’s 5-0 victory over VfL Bochum on Sunday, has performed very well in Bavaria this season.
“Leroy is recommending himself, he’s trying to give it his all in training. Michael Olise is a bit ahead in that position at the moment. Leroy is putting pressure, we’ll still need him,” Eberl told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
With Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman also doing fairly well, competition at the wing spot is fierce. It is interesting, however, that Vincent Kompany has not considered playing Sané and Olise together.
Maybe at some point, that will be an option.
