Leicester’s supporters at the King Power Stadium were not supposed to be shown the big-screen replay of their unawarded penalty which angered Steve Cooper during Saturday’s defeat by Chelsea – but were done so via a Stockley Park own goal.
It is understood the VAR replay operator tasked with working that Premier League clash accidentally sent the replay to the stadium’s two big screens.
It came after Stephy Mavididi had claimed he was tripped by Wesley Fofana inside of the box but neither the referee, Andy Madley, nor the VAR, Paul Tierney, saw it as a foul.
Yet the accidental showing of the replay increased the tension at the King Power as Foxes fans were convinced they had been wronged and they let Madley, who was also targeted by Cooper, know it with gusto.
Leicester were losing 2-0 at the time with the incident coming in the 84th minute as they hoped to set up a grandstand finish.

Replays can be shown inside of Premier League stadiums for overturned VAR decisions as well as when a lengthy delay has been inflicted on a game. Its purpose is to give fans a better idea of what is happening.
Cooper used most of his post-match press conference to take aim at the refereeing team led by Madley, though one of his own players in Wilfred Ndidi was arguably fortunate to avoid red for cutting down Cole Palmer from behind.
Chelsea went on to win 2-1 via goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez, with Jordan Ayew scoring a penalty which Leicester were awarded in stoppage time.
