Ahead of Bayern Munich’s DFB-Pokal match with Mainz 05, sporting director Christoph Freund gave an update on the team’s injury situation.
”Sacha Boey is training with the ball again and will be joining team training in the next few days. We hope that he will be available again soon. Hiroki Itō had a small setback but is now making progress again. We hope that he will be able to get back into training towards the international break. For Josip Stanišić it’ll take a bit longer,” said Freund (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
With the senior squad experiencing some key injuries, the inclusion of youth players is something that fans would like to see. Freund, however, says that the club is preaching patience.
“You to look at each player individually, everyone is at their own stage of development. We have a very good squad, it’s not easy for them to get a lot of minutes. We talk about it all the time. It’s very important to us how they develop. The boys are doing really well. It’s not easy for a young player to get playing time at FC Bayern. It also depends on momentum. I’m convinced that the boys are ready when they’re needed. You have to decide for each individual player what the best next step is – there are different ways,” Freund noted.
Freund also hit on Harry Kane winning the Gerd Müller Trophy (he split the award with Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé) at the Ballon d’Or ceremonies.
“We are very proud that Harry has won this award. His record with us and the national team is incredible. What’s also very important to us is how he works for the team. His big goal is to win titles with the team. For that we need his goals, but also his performance for the team, which he’s delivering,” said Freund.
