Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where Bayern Munich’s U-17, U-19 and U-23 matches are recapped, line ups are provided and highlights to each match are hyperlinked on top of their respective score lines. Unfortunately, none of these matches can be viewed in full length without an FCBayernTV subscription. However, if one lives in Germany or own a VPN, one can watch Bayern’s U-17s derby against TSV Munich using this YouTube link. And if you have it, why are you wasting time reading this? Without further ado, here is the round up:
Bayern lineup (with subs): Peretz – Manuba (66. Brückner), Dettoni, Breitkreuz, Dell’Erba – Rüger, Denk – Wagner (66. Kern), Ibrahimović, Della Rovere (66. Demircan) – Irankunda (66. Unsöld).
Unused subs: Pavlešić – Scholl, Marušić, Yildiz, Durakov.
Injured players: Younes Aitamer, Benjamin Ballis, Moritz Mosandl, Jonathan Asp Jensen, Javier Fernandez, Lennard Becker
Bayern goals: 1:0 Della Rovere (14.), 2:0 Ibrahimović (80.), 3:0 Dell’Erba (90.)
Yes, you saw the correct goalkeeper in the starting lineup. Daniel Peretz dropped down from Bayern’s first team to start for Bayern II. The match report on Bayern’s official website stated that he was playing in order to collect “valuable minutes” following his return from a long term injury. Regardless of the situation, however, his performance was dominant as he looked extremely assured on the ball, leading the build up play from the back with extreme ease while also making some very good saves to keep a clean sheet today.
Peretz’s reassuring presence was rather necessary in this game, too, as the offense misfired for most of the match and required the defense to remain airtight. But the performance did not need to be spectacular, as it was marked more by the returns of midfielder Guido Della Rovere and right back Vincent Manuba to starting XI after the duo spent nearly 2 months out injured. Furthermore, this was the final game of the first english week (3 games in a week) of the Bavarians’ season. At this point, the 3 points are more important than convincing performances.
And the end of one english week marks the beginning of another. One of the team’s cancelled games due to the international break will be replayed in midweek against Greuther Fürth II on Tuesday, October 29 at 1:30PM CST. Bayern II currently sit 5th in the table, 9 points behind 1st place with 2 games in hand. Since the Greuther Fürth match is one of those games in hand, it will be crucial for the Bavarians to take advantage of them to catch up.
Bayern lineup: Klanac – Hoffmann (69. Schuhbauer), Mijaović (46. Puljić), Dalpiaz, Ofli – Nasrawe, Yildiz, Richter (46. Zöls) – Durakov (69. Paylan), Eckl, Mike.
Unused subs: Stančić
Injured players: Oluwaseyi Wilson, Tim Binder, David Santos, Iwinosa Uhuns, Sadiki Chemwor, Noah Codjo-Evora
Bayern goals: 0:1 Mike (16.), 0:2 Durakov (31.)
Opposition goals: 1:2 Degraf (63.), 2:2 Degraf (83.)
This was a…frustrating game, not just because it was the first league game Bayern failed to win, but because the pitch was utterly awful. Watching the highlights is enough to paint a clear picture of how terrible the pitch was, as the first Bayern goal assisted by the pitch bouncing the ball over the goalkeeper. Still, there were two bright spots in this match: The two goalscorers Seydov Durakov and Wisdom Mike.
The former has struggled to get game time ahead of the other wingers this season, but with Binder, Wilson and Chemwor all out injured, it gave Durakov the chance to show what he can do and he was duly involved in several genuinely jaw dropping highlight reel moments in this game, culminating in him scoring a goal. He faded in the second half and was replaced midway through it, but this was much better from a talented player who should be doing much better than he has most of the season.
The other bright spot was Mike. He is likely most well known to casual football fans for the €300,000 fee Bayern had to pay to acquire him from Borussia Mönchengladbach, but he has quickly worked to justify that fee. Another beneficiary of all the injuries to forwards, Mike was promoted from the U-17s for this match and immediately grabbed a goal and an assist, coming close a couple of other times to adding to his tally. It might be hard to drop him down to the U-17s after this and, honestly, he probably shouldn’t be.
This result leave Bayern’s U-19s still very comfortably clear at the top of the table, 10 points ahead of 2nd place with 4 games to go until the end of the first phase of the season. That does not diminish the intrigue of the league fixtures, however, as Bayern’s U-19s will come up against TSV Munich’s U-19s next week on November 2nd at 5:30AM CST. Bayern’s Munich rivals will be visiting with the intention to unmake recent Bavarian dominance, however, because…
Bayern lineup (with subs): Ruland – Wijks, Kiala, Lambe, Ajayi (70. Moumouni) – Karl (82. Matosevic), Schmid (70. Snip), Göttlicher – Afanou (62. Hentcho Nseke), Gashi (82. Anand), Egwuatu
Unused subs: Kösters
Bayern goals: 1:0 Karl (24., p.), 2:0 Egwuatu (85.)
Opposition goals:
There is a stream! It is possible to watch a U-17 match (if you live in Germany or own a VPN) using this link! Finally, for the first time this season, it has happened. And it was a fitting time to do it, too, as Bayern welcome TSV Munich to their home, aiming to go 2 for 2 against their bitter rivals. The given mission was a success, too, as Bayern emerged with a well deserved 2-0 win.
Lennart Karl, who recently found himself in the headlines as rumors of a big move start to swirl, hammered home his first penalty of the season to bring his tally up to 19 goals and 8 assists in 12 games, before Frank Egwuatu sealed the deal in the dying embers of the match. In general, this was an impressive display of technique over physicality. TSV’s boys had the physical edge over most of the pitch and did a good job of exploiting it as much as they could, but Bayern’s technical superiority kept them at bay.
With this win, Bayern’s U-17s have officially sealed their 1st place finish atop of this first league table, 12 points ahead of 2nd place with just 3 games left. These games will come in quick succession, with the first in midweek against Ingolstadt’s U-17s on October 30th at 6:00AM CST.
