Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to links with a move for Ipswich Town centre forward Liam Delap as the North Londoners look to dip into the market to bring in a new striker as they look to pair a considerable understudy to Dominic Solanke following the frustrations with Richarlison over his inconsistency on the pitch complemented by his consistent injury problems.
Chiefs at White Hart Lane have been forced into a possible move for a new secondary striker as Richy has found it difficult to find his feet in North London and per CaughtOffside, the Lilywhites could move for Man City academy graduate as early as the upcoming winter window where a £30million price tag is deemed enough for his current employers to sell the 21-year-old.
Will Spurs pounce on Delap opportunity?
Despite the aggressive links to Delap, John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, insists that Premier League heavyweights Manchester City will be in control of the centre-forward’s future and believes that the Manchester Blues will activate their buyback clause for the Liam should another rival club come close to securing his signatures.
Wenham also insists that it would be City who would decide the price for Delap rather than Ipswich Town.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“The issue with Delap is that City has a buyback clause. Therefore, as soon as any club comes close to signing him, I fully expect City to activate their clause. As a result, they will then be the ones setting the price, not Ipswich.
“Delap is very good. He is big, powerful, and has a lot of other great attributes. He is the exact sort of player I’d like to see Spurs sign.
“However, I just don’t see it happening for a variety of reasons, principally that buyback clause which Manchester City have.”
Delap has had a massive impact at Ipswich Town, and it is difficult to see them let go of the 21-year-old mid-season. However, given the calibre of clubs vying for his signatures, there might not be much that they can do when the winter window comes around.
