Germany was not at its best but escaped with a draw in its Nations League Group A finale on the road at Hungary — and that is a result head coach Julian Nagelsmann will take, under the circumstances.
“We can do things better. Some things were good, others less good,” Nagelsmann stated after the match (as captured by DFB.de). “The conditions were not so simple, on Saturday we won 7:0 and made nine changes in the starting eleven. You have to turn a blind eye to one or two things.
“It took us a long time to get into order in the first half. Overall, you have to look at the bigger picture. When you see how Hungary celebrates the 1-1, it is also an award for our team.”
The former Bayern Munich coach recounted the progress the national team has made since a year ago, when a faltering and still-experimental side hardly looked ready to host the European Championships.
“The sense of togetherness in our team is unique,” said Nagelsmann. “Last November we were all on the ground and we have developed from that. If we approach 2025 the same way we did this year, I have the feeling that we will be much better prepared than we were in 2024.”
