Germany slogged to a 1-1 draw result in the final match of its Nations League A group stage at Hungary.
The German side grew visibly more frustrated as the game wore on, resulting in a physical and chippy affair by the second half — and goals traded in annoying circumstances. Germany looked about to walk off the pitch as happy winners before a last minute scramble resulted in a penalty…and the Hungarian equalizer.
“In the end, it is annoying,” said German defensive midfielder Robert Andrich (Bayer Leverkusen) after the match, as captured by DFB.de. “Of course we wanted to go into the international break with a win. The Hungarians made it difficult for us, they were aggressive in the tackles. We actually scored our goal at the right time. The late equalizer spoils it a bit, but we can still be happy with 2024 and want to build on that in March.”
