Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah is on the radar of Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has been the subject of Real Madrid’s interest in recent weeks and months. Recent reports suggest Real Madrid are planning to reignite their interest in the 2022 World Cup winner, owing to their defensive crisis.
Los Blancos lost Eder Militao for the rest of the season to an ACL injury, and the Brazilian has joined David Alaba in the treatment room. With Nacho Fernandez having left Santiago Bernabeu at the end of last season, Carlo Ancelotti is extremely thin in the centre-back department at the moment. So, this could prompt Madrid to push for Cristian Romero’s signature when the transfer window reopens in January.
Therefore, the Lilywhites have started working behind the scenes for Romero’s replacement. Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah has emerged as a potential target for the North London outfit.
Tottenham have been looking at Jonathan Tah, whose contract at Bayer Leverkusen expires at the end of the ongoing season (Transfermarkt). Daniel Levy is trying to explore both options—a cut-price deal in January or a potential summer swoop on a free transfer.
However, the German international has a lot of suitors in the transfer market, including the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea. This makes any transfer of the 28-year-old to the Hotspur Way a difficult prospect in 2025.
John Wenham—the owner of the famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose thinks Tottenham-linked Tah will leave Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer to Bayern Munich. Given the Bavarian giants in the mix for his signature, he cannot see the central defender signing for Spurs.
“Tah is a really good player,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen going unbeaten in the Bundesliga. However, he went under the radar because he is a centre-back.
“He has fantastic leadership skills. However, I just see him signing for Bayern Munich on a free transfer, without question.
“We know what Bayern are like when it comes to signing players from within the Bundesliga. Therefore, you could almost bet your house that Tah ends up at Bayern on a free transfer.”

Bayern sold Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United in the summer to make room for Tah in the squad. Ultimately, a move failed to materialise, and the German decided to stay put at Bay Arena and run down his contract. However, the Bavarian giants’ interest in the former Hamburg man hasn’t vanished, and they will likely swoop him on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
With Bayern still keen on Tah’s signature, it will be challenging for Spurs to persuade the 2023/24 Bundesliga winner to join them. Just like Radu Dragusin rejected Bayern to join Big Ange’s squad back in January, we can only hope for the lightning to strike twice this time in Tah’s case.
