Former Premier League goalkeeper turned pundit Shaka Hislop has named Nicolas Jackson as his revelation of the season so far.
Jackson arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2023 from Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth £32m and impressed during his debut season.
The 23-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions, with 14 of those coming in the Premier League and he was rewarded with a new two year contract extension keeping him at the club until 2033.
Hislop names Jackson as his revelation of the season so far
A lot was made of Chelsea not signing a striker in the summer having pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, but the Blues have made a good start to the season.
Enzo Maresca’s men sit third in the Premier League and have looked a real threat going forward with the likes of Jackson standing out.
The Senegal international has started every league game this season and Darren Bent believes Jackson’s perfect for how Maresca wants to play.
Jackson has six goals and three assists in 11 league games and on early evidence it appears his finishing has improved from last season.
Maresca has stated how happy he is with Jackson, and Hislop has named the striker as his revelation of the season so far and spoke on how different his performances have been compared to the back end of the last campaign.
“I didn’t think Nico Jackson covered himself in any kind of glory at all,” he told ESPN.
“Contrast that with this season, I think that was the big point for me in in choosing Nico Jackson.
“Some of his disappointments of last season, and contrast to how he started this season, not just his goals but the way he’s held play up, the way he’s linked play for Chelsea so far this season.
“I thought it was in total contrast to everything I saw last season.”
Jackson is getting more praise for his performances this season and has demonstrated how important he is to how Chelsea and Maresca want to play, and it will be interesting to see how he develops over the course of the season.
