West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten has a lot of work to do over the course of the next two transfer windows.
Tim Steidten was given the keys to the kingdom regarding player recruitment at the London Stadium in the summer, whilst Julen Lopetegui was tasked with getting the best out of the new arrivals.
However, that hasn’t quite worked out has it.
And it’s believed that there is trouble behind the scenes at West Ham, with Steidten and Lopetegui still butting heads over some of the summer transfer business.
Whilst the Hammers made some very strong signings, a couple of new arrivals raised some eyebrows – namely Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme.
What has made the situation worse is Lopetegui’s inability to get all of the new arrivals to gel together as a unit.
West Ham are in real trouble right now, and more work is needed on the squad if we are to improve.
It seems like the Hammers have a plan in place ahead of the winter window, but there are question marks as to whether the man in question would actually be a good signing for us.
West Ham eyeing Yuri Alberto swoop
Brazilian hitman Yuri Alberto is firmly on the Hammers radar ahead of the January window according to a report from Trivela.
And Corinthians apparently could sell the 23-year-old for around £21-25 million.
We have actually been heavily linked with a move to sign the South American before, so it would be no surprise to see us go in for him again.
Steidten is clearly getting his ducks in a row ahead of the January transfer window.
Lopetegui has had to make do with Michail Antonio as his main striker this season, with Niclas Fullkrug having been unavailable due to an Achilles injury since early September.
As good as Antonio has been for us, he’s well past his best now.
The time has come for the Hammers to go out and sign a proper centre-forward – someone who can take us to the next level.
And it seems as though Steidten has Yuri Alberto in mind, but is he the right man for the job at the London Stadium?
Why West Ham should avoid Yuri Alberto move
Alberto has bagged 93 goals in 270 career games (Transfermarkt) – a decent clip of one goal in every three games.
The Corinthians forward is a very good finisher and is extremely efficient when playing with his back to goal.
However, he does lack any kind of real pace, and that’s a big problem as far as I’m concerned.
We made the mistake of signing Niclas Fullkrug in the summer, rather than someone like Jhon Duran or Jonathan David, and we’re paying the price for that now.
The next striker the Hammers sign absolutely must have explosive pace – it should be a non-negotiable as far as I’m concerned.
I really think that West Ham should avoid a move for Yuri Alberto – there are many better options out there for us, including the aforementioned Jonathan David.
Pace is the most highly sought after commodity in the Premier League, and unfortunately for the 23-year-old Brazilian, he simply doesn’t possesses that whatsoever.
