West Ham United fans won’t believe something that Julen Lopetegui just said during his press conference.
I don’t feel like Julen Lopetegui is very popular amongst the West Ham players, and I know he’s not a fan favourite.
Numerous players are said to want out of the club, whilst it has been claimed that the Spaniard has just two games remaining to save his job – away at Newcastle and home to Arsenal.
Things really haven’t gone to plan this season have they?
The results and performances have been equally poor, and Lopetegui has struggled to implement any kind of footballing philosophy at the club.
He comes across as very insincere when speaking to the press as well. The latest of example of that is something he said to reporters this afternoon…
Julen Lopetegui is disingenuous after praise for West Ham player
The Spaniard is struggling to connect with the West Ham fans right now.
And his latest comments on one player in particular prove just how detached from reality he really is.
Lopetegui addressed the media at Rush Green this afternoon, and fielded one question on Danny Ings.
The Hammers head coach was asked to share his thoughts on the experienced striker, and responded with the most insincere answer I think I’ve ever heard in my life.
Lopetegui said, “Danny is one player who is working hard. We are happy with his commitment, and he’s always going to contribute for us.“
Those words mean absolutely nothing if you ask me.
Firstly, Lopetegui desperately tried to get rid of Ings in the summer, but he remained at the London Stadium in the end.
And secondly, if Lopetegui really rated Ings, why has he given him just 57 Premier League minutes since he scored our vital equaliser away at Fulham in September?
It doesn’t add up does it.
The Spaniard has ignored the 32-year-old time and time against when we’ve need a different approach.
I would have much more respect for Julen Lopetegui if he just admitted that he didn’t rate Danny Ings, and I’m sure the West Ham striker would as well.
It will be interesting to see what happens if a bid comes in for the centre-forward in January.
If it does, I suspect we’ll all see what Lopetegui really thinks of Ings then.
