West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez has experienced a tumultuous 2024/25 campaign so far.
Edson Alvarez has been a big problem for West Ham this season, with his multiple lapses in concentration and discipline proving extremely costly for us.
When the 27-year-old arrived at the London Stadium from Ajax, the Hammers fans rejoiced, but he hasn’t quite lived up to his billing yet, if you ask me.
It has even been suggested that Alvarez could leave the Hammers in January, after his terrible form and continual ill-discipline.
He has to seriously buck up his ideas if he is to feature regularly under Julen Lopetegui, that’s for sure.
The Mexican just needs to settle down and start doing what he does best for West Ham.
Over the past week or so, Alvarez’s season became even more eventful than it already has been, and not in a good way.
West Ham star Edson Alvarez opens up on manager incident
The former Ajax man has been in the news for more bad reasons than good this season.
And he was involved in a highly controversial fixture recently.
Alvarez spoke to reporters about Mexico’s 2-0 defeat to Honduras on Saturday.
And the 27-year-old Hammers midfielder opened up on his thoughts about the incident involving Mexico manager Javier Aguirre, when he was struck by a beer can thrown by a Honduras fan, as quoted by Record.
The West Ham man said, “It was a complicated environment over there (San Pedro Sula), but hey, they do their job, They push and support that way, and we have to be smarter.
“We didn’t really like what we saw there. Personally, what happened with Javier Aguirre bothered me a lot, because he is my coach and he is Mexican, but yeah, to turn the page.
“There is always pressure. Even if we win, people will talk about what we did in Honduras. The pressure will always be there, we have to continue along this line.”
Alvarez was right, the scenes with blood pouring from Aguirre’s head were unsavoury to say the least.
Mexico got their revenge on Honduras though, by beating them 4-0 in the reverse fixture late on Wednesday night.
Now we need Edson Alvarez to turn his focus back to West Ham, and to start performing consistently for us.
The Mexico international has let the Hammers down badly over the past couple of months, and he owes the fans, his manager and his teammates big time.
Hopefully his country’s 4-0 win a couple of days ago will give him the boost he needs to rediscover his best form.
