Lucas Paquetá’s situation at West Ham appears to have been relegated from ‘top spot’ in the club’s crisis rankings owning to Julen Lopetegui’s perilous head coach position just now. Heading to a ‘must not get thrashed game’ on Monday night against Newcastle United, the club and supporters are focused more on trying to dodge a big black and while coloured bullet than on observing the plight of their troubled Brazilian playmaker.
West Ham’s options for Paquetá are pretty unenviable right now. The Brazilian is hopelessly out of form, quite clearly preoccupied with his forthcoming double enquiries in both Brazil and then at the FA in England next year regarding his alleged yellow cards betting scandal. The club could see their hitherto £85 million player banned for life and worth nothing. So, maybe just to grab any sale for him and pass the problem onto someone else? A massive financial gamble which would backfire if he is found ‘not guilty’: Paquetá has always denied all of the allegations.
And so when a headline appears today detailing “The Laughable Price for Which Lucas Paqueta Could Leave West Ham“, I’m shocked and I’m sure that nobody in East London is laughing.
However, fichajes.net detail that:”Lucas Paquetá could leave West Ham for a much lower amount of money than his market value” and continue on to specify the exact amount:
“Lucas Paquetá, .. a key piece in the Hammers’ scheme, is reportedly on the list of possible departures from the London club, which is willing to negotiate for a figure close to 30 million euros. The discount in his price, considering his market value of 55 million, has sparked the interest of several teams, especially in his home country, Brazil.”
30 million euros for a player who could quite possibly never play again? Now, that’d be a sensible piece of business. Maybe it is time to cut our losses with Lucas Paquetá so that both the player and the club can move forward. Glad it isn’t my decision though.
