West Ham United are in real trouble right now, and Robbie Savage has delivered his verdict on the situation.
Julen Lopetegui just isn’t the man we need at West Ham right now is he?
The Spaniard is incredibly dull as far as his press conferences are concerned, he lacks any kind of charisma, and I feel like that is rubbing off on the players.
Lopetegui should have been sacked already as far as I’m concerned, but he clearly believes he is bulletproof if his latest comments are anything to go by.
The performances have been utterly turgid this season, and we lack any kind of footballing identity, nor do we have a clear vision for the future.
Things have to improve quickly, if Lopetegui is to remain in charge at the London Stadium.
The problem is that none of us can see that happening anytime soon.
Robbie Savage makes West Ham relegation prediction
The Hammers’ season has slowly descended into a complete farce unfortunately.
Lopetegui has performed terribly in his role as head coach, especially given the financial backing he received in the summer.
Robbie Savage focused on West Ham’s current situation, when writing his regular column for The Mirror (Print edition November 23rd, page 61).
And the well-known pundit made a prediction about the Hammers.
Savage said, “Julen Lopetegui is thought to be on thin ice at West Ham, but is 11 games long enough to judge him?”
“It’s not gone to plan for the Hammers this season but, let’s face it, with or without manager Lopetegui, they are not going to be relegated.
“So it’s down to that old chestnut – are they looking for style or substance?
“If the hierarchy are looking for a more expansive brand of football, the so-called West Ham way, I would simply ask, what is the West Ham way?
“Is it winning the club’s first trophy for 43 years, as they did under former manager David Moyes and his pragmatic, sound approach… or do they want to play fluid, open football, if it just means staying up?”
West Ham not safe from relegation and here’s why
I don’t believe that West Ham will get relegated either, but Savage is missing a key point here.
The Hammers are currently sitting in 14th spot in the Premier League table, just four points clear of the relegation zone.
To make matters worse, our next two games are against Newcastle United and Arsenal respectively.
We then face crunch clashes with two teams just below us in the table – Leicester City and Wolves.
The Hammers could easily be in the relegation zone if we lose our next two games.
Whilst I don’t think West Ham will get relegated this season, it’s far from cut and dry that we won’t, like Robbie Savage seemed to suggest.
We will know a lot more about where our season is heading after the next four games are out of the way.
