West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan signed off on the deal to bring Jarrod Bowen to the London Stadium in January 2020.
Jarrod Bowen joined West Ham from Hull City nearly five years ago now, after David Sullivan agreed to pay £22 million for the Englishman.
The 27-year-old has gone on to be a huge hit at the London Stadium, with 64 goals and 41 assists in 215 games to his name for the Hammers (Transfermarkt).
Bowen has gone from strength to strength since then, and he reached the pinnacle of his career so far by scoring his first goal for England last weekend.
The former Hull City ace is one of the two most valuable assets we have at West Ham right now, alongside Mohammed Kudus.
Now that he’s the captain, he has extra responsibility at the London Stadium, both on and off the pitch.
But what does the future hold for Jarrod?
Will he be a Hammer for the remainder of his career, or will he leave for pastures new at some point in search of some trophies?
David Sullivan’s Jarrod Bowen sale stance emerges
I think we can all agree that Bowen is our best, most consistent and most important player.
Sure, Kudus may be more explosive and skilfull, but Bowen never lets us down like Kudus has done at times.
The 27-year-old’s record for West Ham speaks for itself, with more than 100 goal contributions to his name in less than five years at the club.
So could one of the Premier League big boys be tempted to try and prise him away from the London Stadium?
And more importantly, would Sullivan play ball?
According to a report from The Sun (print edition November 22nd, page 50), Bowen is not for sale at any price.
The Sun journalist Andy Dillon wrote:
“Having pulled off what now appears a masterful deal buying Bowen from Hull for £22million, Sullivan would not sell him for any price,”
“Sullivan oversaw the deal himself and will happily tell you even though Bowen to the Prem, he was no risk because of his rock-solid character.
“If you ask, he will also confess that while Payet was a truly great footballer, Bowen is a better asset for his club.”
Jarrod Bowen a Hammer for life
The 27-year-old put pen-to-paper on a new deal that runs until 2030 in October of last year (WHUFC.com).
Julen Lopetegui instilled him as the new club captain back in the summer, and he clearly has genuine love for the club.
Bowen had twins with long-term partner Dani Dyer back in 2023, and his father-in-law is famous West Ham fan Danny Dyer.
The England international made it very clear back in September of this year that he wants to remain a Hammer for the rest of his career:
“I always aim to show what it means to represent West Ham. I hope I stay forever.“
I have no doubts that Bowen will go on to become the Hammers’ leading Premier League goalscorer and assist provider.
David Sullivan clearly views Jarrod Bowen as an indispensable player for West Ham, and rightly so.
Hopefully the club manages to match his ambition over the next few years, so that he is able to achieve real success at the London Stadium.
