Leicester City are looking for a new manager and West Ham could be joining them in the coming days according to recent reports.
Last night Leicester blinked first in the managerial sack race with West Ham.
The Foxes axed Steve Cooper and former Hammers boss David Moyes has been tipped to replace him.
The Scot is reportedly a candidate for the Leicester job after his West Ham exit in the summer.
But a journalist suggested last night Moyes is being used as a smokescreen by Leicester.
Because Leicester are actually targeting two other West Ham managerial targets in the shape of Graham Potter and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
It has now been widely publicised that West Ham could sack Julen Lopetegui this week.
The Irons face Newcastle away and Arsenal at home in the next six days.
Lose both and the Spaniard will be fired according to reports.
It’s even been claimed Lopetegui could join Cooper in receiving his P45 if West Ham don’t get positive results from those daunting fixtures.
Leicester are well aware the Hammers may be about to enter the manager market.
Potter told West Ham job is about to become available?
And with a much more impressive squad and prospects in east London, that would be a problem for the Foxes.
While Van Nistelrooy was always going to be an outlier for the West Ham job, Potter has been on the club’s shortlist since April.
Potter turned down Leicester in the summer when it was unclear whether they would be hit by a points deduction.
The former Chelsea and Brighton boss has been heavily linked with the Hammers, especially over the international break.
Now a journalist has hinted Potter has been told to snub Leicester because the West Ham job is about to become available.
Alan Nixon is close to the situation and he called that Cooper would be sacked and potentially replaced by Moyes two weeks ago.
Now The Sun journalist has delivered an intriguing update on the situation.
Reporting exclusively on his Patreon, Nixon says Potter and Moyes are the frontrunners for Leicester.
But he dropped a clear and obvious hint that a more attractive proposition in the shape of West Ham may become available very soon.
Potter to put Leicester on hold ahead of West Ham decision
“Potter had the chance to join the Foxes in the summer but chose to wait and sources close to him suggest he is still unsure,” Nixon said.
“The former Chelsea chief could be a target for ANOTHER Premier League job shortly and that may be more attractive than Leicester…
“Leicester will have to convince their managerial targets that they have money to spend in January.”
Nixon doesn’t actually name the Hammers but Lopetegui is the only Premier League boss under immense immediate pressure.
And West Ham is the only potential job about to become available that’s better than Leicester.
It’s clear he means the Hammers in light of incessant speculation Lopetegui is on the brink.
West Ham fans have been divided on hiring Potter in the past. Some feel his failure at Chelsea exposed his shortcomings.
Others believe he is just what the Hammers need. A young, innovative manager with a clear philosophy and style of play.
Potter has divided opinion among Hammers fans
What is also important is that Potter has always worked in a structure where he has players signed for him.
That would be the case at West Ham under technical director Tim Steidten.
The German has been heavily criticised for some of his summer dealings. That’s despite being hailed a hero after signing nine players for over £155m to rebuild West Ham.
Steidten compromised himself by allowing Lopetegui to pick some of those signings, such as Guido Rodrigiez and Carlos Soler.
His own picks of Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme are just as questionable, though.
Potter is also renowned for giving young players a chance.
That is very appealing to West Ham fans, who are fiercely proud of the club’s academy traditions.
Many supporters were disgusted last week when it emerged Lopetegui has given zero minutes to academy players this season.
He is one of only four managers in the Premier League to have completely snubbed club-trained players.
