West Ham United are all set to play host to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Mikel Arteta will bring his Arsenal side to the East End of London to take on West Ham in the Premier League, and the outcome of the match could end up being pivotal for both teams.
The Hammers picked up a vital win away at Newcastle on Monday night, and Julen Lopetegui came out and told the press that THAT performance is our footballing identity.
There is certainly more optimism floating about the London Stadium now than there was before the win over the Toon.
The Hammers players will welcome the Gunners to the London Stadium full of confidence now, rather than trepidation.
It will be all to play for come 17:30 on Saturday evening.
And the Gunners fans won’t be happy one little bit after an official announcement was made by the Premier League today.
Premier League announcement ahead of West Ham vs Arsenal
The upcoming Premier League clash is a vitally important one for both sides.
And a very interesting announcement has just been made ahead of the big London derby.
The Premier League have today announced that Anthony Taylor will referee our clash with the Gunners, whilst Michael Salisbury will lead up the VAR team.
The Gunners have a checkered past with Taylor.
He officiated their clash with Liverpool at the Emirates towards the end of October., and he made a truly horrendous decision.
Taylor blew up for a foul in the second-half when Jakub Kiwior rose above Dominik Szoboszlai to head the ball towards goal, rather than letting it play out.
Arsenal went on to score but the goal was disallowed after the 46-year-old had already blown up, meaning that VAR couldn’t even intervene.
The Gunners fans were apoplectic with rage – understandably so if you ask me.
Coincidentally, Salisbury was on VAR duty for the Arsenal vs Liverpool clash, and the double act will be back for the London Stadium showdown this weekend.
West Ham need another big result against Arsenal
I’m hoping that we get more favourable decisions than the visitors.
The Gunners have won just 30 of the 51 games that Taylor has officiated, and he’s dished out six red cards to them throughout those matches (Transfermarkt).
Usually it’s us that gets dealt blows regarding the officials selected for our games.
So it’s nice to see Arsenal fans squirming ahead of the West Ham clash for a change.
After Monday night’s incredible performance away at Newcastle, the Hammers players will be well up for the clash with the Gunners.
Arsenal won’t be relishing taking us on one little bit, especially after the news dropped today by the Premier League.
