Carlo Ancelotti has suggested that Real Madrid still need Arda Guler involved amid links with a loan or permanent transfer to Arsenal in January.
Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal could look to take advantage of uncertainty around Arda Guler’s situation at Real Madrid to offer him a similar pathway to the one recently taken by Martin Odegaard.
Yet whether or not Guler would be interested in a move to north London, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has suggested he’s not a disposable player.
“Arda has contributed a lot when it comes to creativity in the final third, he has been close to scoring goals, he has played a complete game,” Ancelotti said.
“These are players that we can count on at this moment because the demands of the games are very high. We need everyone going forward.”
Spanish outlet Sport had reported that Guler was on Arsenal’s radar ahead of the January transfer window. The Gunners are reportedly interested in signing him, and Odegaard’s success since making that same move is causing the youngster to consider his situation.
The player is still hoping to make it in Madrid, but he understands that he’s not going to get the opportunities he wants there right now. Arsenal could offer him a way out.
Madrid would presumably prefer a loan move, if anything, as Guler is still just 19 years old with a contract running until June 2029.
Despite what he’s saying in press conferences, Ancelotti is yet to really prove that he views Guler as a consistent starter, with nine of the player’s 13 appearances in 2024/25 coming as a substitute.
But after more than two months out of the lineup, Guler did return to the starting eleven and provide an assist against CD Leganes on Sunday.
Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or on the wings, Arsenal could have more minutes on offer to Guler in the second half of the campaign. For now, any interest is presumably in the very early stages.
