Arsenal will take advantage of Tuesday’s game against Sporting CP to get a closer look at Viktor Gyokeres ahead of a potential transfer, according to a report.
Correio da Manha report in their print edition on Monday morning that Mikel Arteta will take advantage of Tuesday’s game between Sporting CP and Arsenal to decide whether or not to move forward with an attempt to sign Viktor Gyokeres.
Arteta reportedly hopes to use the opportunity to watch Gyokeres live to make a call over whether the Gunners should join the race for the signing in 2025.
The 26-year-old is widely expected to move on next year, with his red-hot form and a release clause leading to plenty of interest in him.
Arsenal are far from the only Premier League team in the running, and fellow Portuguese outlet Record claim Manchester City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid are all sending scouts to watch the match, with Gyokeres their focus.
Gyokeres scored his 24th goal of the season for Sporting over the weekend, and he also has nine goals in his six games for Sweden since September. To have 33 goals for club and country before the end of November is very impressive.
The expectation is that one of the big Premier League sides will make a move for Gyokeres in 2025. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal are among the clubs linked, and Paul Hirst of The Times recently reported that the striker could be available for just £63m.
Gyokeres is certainly available for €100m (£83m), as that’s the price of his release clause with Sporting. If Arsenal or any other club were willing to pay that amount, only the player himself could stop them from making the signing.
But Sporting could go lower, with the player reportedly having a gentleman’s agreement with his club to leave for a lower fee of around €75-85m (£62.4-70.7m).
Hirst wrote that Arsenal looked at Gyokeres last season before deciding against a bid, but they’re clearly reconsidering now.
