The former Chelsea and Derby County manager Frank Lampard looks set for a return to management having been out of the game for more than a year
Former Everton manager Frank Lampard is reportedly closing in on the vacant Coventry City job. The ex-Toffees boss left Goodison Park in January 2023 after a difficult spell on Merseyside.
Having helped secure the club’s safety in the Premier League during the 2021/22 campaign, the Blues were drawn into another relegation battle the following season which ultimately cost him his job. Just three months after leaving Everton, Lampard returned to Chelsea temporarily as Todd Boehly appointed him caretaker boss after Graham Potter’s sacking.
His second stint in the dugout at Stamford Bridge was deemed a disaster as Lampard won just one of the 11 matches he was in charge for. He would step down as caretaker at the end of that season and went on a prolonged break from management.

Lampard has appeared as a pundit for various broadcasters which hinted at punditry being his next step. However, a return to the Championship now looks to be on the cards.
According to The Telegraph, Lampard is now in advanced talks with the Midlands club and there is an understanding that the 46-year-old would be open to a return to management should the right opportunity arise. It is believed this opportunity presented itself thanks to Coventry owner Doug King’s relationship with the Redknapp family.
Lampard is the nephew of former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp. Should he be appointed at the Coventry Building Society Arena, he will have a reunion with former England teammate and Everton striker Wayne Rooney on Boxing Day when Plymouth Argyle visit City.
