West Ham fans lend me your ears because Adrian Durham has been well and truly put in his place after his Jarrod Bowen rant.
Many West Ham fans have always felt talkSPORT ‘shock jock’ Adrian Durham has it in for the club.
In the last couple of weeks alone there’s been plenty of evidence.
After Jarrod Bowen came on against Greece after his late England call-up, Durham wasn’t impressed.
Durham labelled West Ham captain Bowen England’s worst player.
That’s despite Bowen been widely praised for his workrate and the brilliant pass which created England’s killer third goal.
Unfortunately for the Hammers, Durham was on duty for talkSPORT when they went to Newcastle on Monday night.
Durham’s ridiculous anti West Ham rant sparks anger
Despite turning in their best performance of the year to pull of a superb 2-0 win, Durham ranted afterwards that it was undeserved and that the Hammers ‘won’t win too many games playing like that’.
He changed his tune on West Ham’s captain, though, calling him ‘terrific’.
Durham went below the belt with his next rant, though.
Durham stated Bowen is too good to play for West Ham and urged him to leave the club.
West Ham fans were understandably outraged by his comments.
Thankfully it’s Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling to the rescue.
Redressing the balance on the same radio station, the duo put their colleague back in his box.
Brilliant McCoist and Stelling destroyed Durham for his disrespectful anti West Ham rant.
Scotland’s legendary striker and Stelling said West Ham deserved so much credit for a brilliant performance, congratulating the team and the fans.
McCoist and Stelling destroy Durham over Bowen rant
Then they tore Durham’s ridiculous claim about Bowen – who signed a seven-year contract last season – to ribbons.
“Fair play to West Ham, they were comfortable and it really was an excellent, excellent three points.
“That’s an interesting thought isn’t it, ‘too good for West Ham’,” Stelling said on talkSPORT, which you can see below.
“Now West Ham fans that was not me saying that, that was Adrian saying that.
“He was excellent and he is excellent but he’s clearly extremely happy where he is.”
“Of course he is and that’s half the battle,” McCoist responded.
“I mean I think he could play for sides who are higher up the table,” Stelling added.
Bowen isn’t ‘too good’ for West Ham say talkSPORT duo
“Of course he could,” McCoist agreed.
“There is absolutely no doubt about it. The first I would qualify is by saying I don’t think he’s “too good to play for West Ham”. He’s an excellent player and you think of West Ham they’ve had some fantastic players over the years and still do. So he’s not “too good” to play for them.
“Could be play at Champions League level? Yes. I think that’s the point Ade is trying to make and I agree with him there. But never, ever, ever underestimate the importance of being in a comfortable zone and area and position in your life.
“He’s obviously really happy there, he’s content with his surroundings at the club and away from the club.
“And that’s such a massive factor it really is. Somebody at the club that’s a smiling face and happy, that’s such an important thing…
“West Ham are a good team with some great players.”
“He is their talisman now,” Stelling added.
“Before the game Sky Sports spoke to him, after the game they spoke to him. He is one of the first names, possibly the first name they think of when it comes to West Ham.”
Fair play to McCoist and Stelling for this.
Durham needs to take a look at himself and show West Ham more respect.
To be called out by your own colleagues for voicing such an intentionally inflammatory opinion says everything.
An embarrassing moment for the talkSPORT man.
