Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany might have gotten used to his team rolling over its competition in recent weeks, but Borussia Dortmund presented a much more stiff challenge in Der Klassiker.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw that did not leave the manager satisfied.
“Before every game, we want three points. Today we didn’t get three points. That’s the reality. But it was a top game, away at Dortmund, we were 1-0 behind. We showed character, equalised and kept going in the final minutes. That shows we have belief. Every team in the world experiences such moments during a season,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I thought the first 10-15 minutes weren’t too bad but then we lost momentum, made mistakes and lost the ball too easily. We didn’t show our best level. In the second half we showed up quickly and created many chances to score. I’m happy that we managed to score in such a situation under pressure, but unhappy that we didn’t win. We showed character. Overall it was a good game for the Bundesliga.”
Kompany could be faced with some tough decisions as he moves forward. An injury to Harry Kane, uncertainty at right-back, and inconsistent play from his wingers all will have the coach diving deep on how to proceed.
