Manchester City are now winless in seven matches for the first time since 2004 – but Arne Slot has no sympathy for Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool eased to a 2-0 win over the Citizens at Anfield on Sunday to extend their lead over the Premier League holders to 11 points.
Slot’s rampant Reds are now nine points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea at the top of the table.
As for City, they sit in fifth spot having lost their last four top-flight matches – the first time in their history in 16 years.
Guardiola has now set an unwanted record in each of City’s last three matches.
The club’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham last week marked five successive losses for the first time in his managerial career.
Meanwhile the thrilling 3-3 draw with Feyenoord in the Champions League midweek was the first time his side have failed to win after being three goals ahead.
And now in the recent defeat to Liverpool, he has went seven games without victory.
But Slot isn’t feeling sorry for the Spaniard as he commented on the ex-Barcelona boss’ ever-growing trophy cabinet.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Dutchman was asked whether he has any sympathy for Guardiola.
To which he said: “You feel sympathy or empathy with the managers that are in a really bad place.
“They have either lost many games or are down at the bottom of the league.
“But Pep has won so many things and he has shown so many times already, that is why the league is not decided in November or December.
“Last season they were eight points behind Arsenal somewhere in February.
“So no one has to feel empathy or [feel] sorry for Pep – maybe for other managers – but not for Pep.
“He has won so many things and he will be able to bring City back – they are still near the top of the table – but even more than they are now.”
Guardiola has enjoyed success at Barca, Bayern and City – winning 12 league titles.
Six of his championships have come in England, and he was quick to make Liverpool fans aware of that after he was subject to ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ chants by holding up six fingers.
Commenting on the gesture, Guardiola remarked: “I’m so proud of my six Premier Leagues against that team and the previous team.
“I didn’t expect Anfield to start to chant at 0-2 that I would be sacked.
“Maybe I deserve to be sacked. With our results, maybe I’m still in the job because I won six Premier Leagues and a lot of titles.
“But I didn’t expect to sing at 0-2 – maybe at 0-1 when it was tighter or maybe last season or the previous season.
“At Anfield I didn’t expect it but it’s fine. It’s part of the game. When you win, you laugh, When you lose, you laugh.”
Next up for City is a home clash against high-flying Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, on the same night Liverpool face Newcastle at St James’ Park.
