Manchester City are “ready” to offload captain Kyle Walker, according to TBRFootball.
The 34-year-old still has 18 months left to run on his contract but it has reportedly been decided that he can leave the Etihad, with the club seeking a younger replacement.
Walker was contemplating his departure from the Premier League champions at the start of last season, with Bayern Munich keen on securing his services.
However, he was persuaded to stay by manager Pep Guardiola at the time, signing a contract extension in the process.
Walker’s form has nosedived in recent months, though, and TBRFootball believe that the Cityzens would now sanction a sale, with clubs in Saudi Arabia taking a keen interest.
Who could City sign to replace Walker?
Bayer Leverkusen wingback Jeremie Frimpong is a player who was considered a target in previous transfer windows. It is believed that City discussed the prospect of signing him at the back end of last season.
The club ultimately decided against signing the Netherlands international, but there is a good chance that they would revive their interest now.
There will be competition for Frimpong
It has been claimed that Leverkusen would consider selling the Dutchman for around €40m (£33m) and that is not a massive fee for someone of his calibre.
Frimpong has attracted the attention of other Premier League teams. Manchester United have been keeping tabs on him for several years while Liverpool are eyeing him up as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who could leave the Reds when his contract expires next summer.
City may have the edge in negotiations for the 23-year-old because he is a former academy player. Despite never playing a senior game for the club, Frimpong has previously expressed an interest in returning to the Etihad.
