Manchester City’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday evening leaves Pep Guardiola’s side 11 points behind the Reds in the table.
Although we are only a third of the way through the season, pundits have written off the club’s chances of winning their fifth title in a row.
City have never been this far behind and won the league and, when asked if the title race is over, some fans on X were still clinging to some hope, while others believe the game is up:

I accepted this 2 months ago when Rodri went down. I’ve been stress free with this team since then. 😂
Go again next season!

No shame in not winning 5 consecutive PLs – the players are exhausted and injured, even the ones playing are clearly not at 100%.
Think they have to try to consolidate top 4 exerting as little as possible, and let the players (big overhaul needed) try start next season fresh

City’s performances have not been good enough
In past years, when the Cityzens dropped points early on in the season, there was a feeling that they could recover, simply because the underlying numbers were still good.
However, things are a lot different this time around. Although they still have the second-best expected goals for in the league, their expected goals against is 12th. With that sort of defence, you can’t mount a serious title challenge, especially when others (like Arsenal and Chelsea) are also performing better than you.
Will the January transfer window prove to be their saviour?
Respected sources have confirmed that City are likely to spend money in the New Year to improve their squad. A replacement for the injured Rodri is expected to be brought in.
However, considering how far Guardiola’s team are behind, it is looking like it will be too little too late to save their title challenge.
