David Moyes and Alan Shearer spoke about Everton’s Premier League survival prospects on Match of the Day 2
David Moyes gave a hopeful message to Everton as he commented on his former club’s humiliating 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. Despite saying that Sean Dyche’s team “need to be much better defensively” after “giving away goals that were really unlike them,” Moyes is confident the Blues “have got enough” to avoid relegation.
Everton sit two points above Wolves, who occupy the final relegation place and who arrive at Goodison Park on Wednesday for a huge match for both clubs.
And Moyes, speaking on Match of the Day 2 after the Old Trafford embarrassment, said: “I think Everton have got enough to stay out of it but they’re going to have to win the games they can.

“Today was always going to be a hard game against Manchester United and Dychey sort of eluded to that.”
The message of optimism by Moyes will be a welcome one after a sizeable chunk of Everton’s loyal away following had given up hope long before the final whistle at Old Trafford.
Blues boss Dyche was left to clap mostly empty seats in the away section at full-time as the travelling Evertonians made their way home from Manchester with the worry of yet another relegation scrap looming large.
Sitting beside Moyes on Match of the Day 2 sofa was Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and he echoed the Scotsman’s sentiment about Everton’s survival chances. The former England captain said: “I do think they’ll have enough … Historically, over the years, they have just had enough and I do think that will be the case.”
The loss to Ruben Amorim’s side made it four games in a row without a goal for the Blues. It’s a run they simply must end against Wolves. And Shearer added: “Everton are not going to be judged on Manchester United away. They’ll be looking to Wolves, to Ipswich, and all the other teams.”
Moyes, who managed the Blues between March 2022 and the end of the 2012-23 season before moving to Manchester United, added: “They gave away goals that were really unlike them. They need to get much better defensively, they need to get their set-pieces back working because over the last season or two they have been very good defending and attacking.”
