Manchester City is becoming a prominent topic in football headlines, currently on a seven-game winless streak which is unheard of during Pep Guardiola’s time with the club. It’s time to ride on everyone else’s coattails and reveal how exactly Pep managed a 20-year-old Schalke winger named Leroy Sané to choose them over Liverpool. It’s simple: he told the German that he wanted him to play like the great Lionel Messi (via Daily Star).
Messi was a player Pep helped develop into a world class footballer, and he did the same thing for Sané with the Citizens. In four years, the now 28-year-old became a popular name in the Premier League and earned him a €50 million move to Bayern Munich in 2020.
Has Sané met the expectations set on him? Not really. He has had a turbulent time in terms of output, most notably performing well in the first half of the season and falling off after the winter break. With his current contract running out next year and no inclination from Bayern to extend, he might be on the move again.
