According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich’s performance this season has caused the club to scrap its idea of cutting his pay in a potential contract extension.
With time, interest from other big clubs, and leverage all on his side, Kimmich holds all the cards in these talks per the report:
Bayern are no longer trying to convince Joshua Kimmich to take a pay cut on his salary, estimated at around €20m gross per year. The club is aware that Kimmich is being courted by other top clubs – and the fact he will be a free agent next year makes it unrealistic that he would accept to reduce his salary.
The player will not sign a contract extension before the end of this year. From January 1st, he would be allowed to officially speak to other clubs, which strengthens his position in the negotiations with Bayern.
The rumors of tough talk with pay cuts and salary budget reduction are probably moot with Kimmich’s situation. The midfielder has been spectacular this season under Vincent Kompany and by betting on himself, Kimmich probably secured a better offer from Bayern Munich — likely the place where he wants to spend the phase of his career anyway.
