After his team demolished Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 in a Champions League match in Gelsenkirchen, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany waxed philosophical with a message about the evolution of a team and a season.
“My idea is very rational. You start somewhere and you have to get better step by step. And that’s very simple. I can also be honest with this team and even if we win all the games, I would say we can still get better. I don’t live for one trophy or cup. It’s about development and always getting the best out of the team. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t work, I hear that from everyone and we keep working quietly. When things are going well, we still remain objective,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Fans will debate the level of improvements made by the teams since the start of the season, but it is clear that the players are getting more comfortable working under Kompany each day.
In the end, Kompany is trying to build an environment focused on continuous improvement, which should bode well for the Bavarians over the course of a long season.
