According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich will not pursuing players like Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, or RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško to bolster the striker position.
The cost for such a move would be prohibitive (even for a rich club like Bayern Munich),
Regarding the attack, rather than focusing on big names like Viktor Gyökeres, Omar Marmoush and Benjamin Šeško – that would cost a lot of money, Bayern are now intensively looking for a striker that would accept a second role behind Harry Kane. Jonathan David on a free transfer is a candidate. Some of the people in charge believe that getting a backup for Kane is more important than adding another center-back.
While David will be a free transfer this summer, he would not come cheap in January if Bayern Munich were to think about a midseason pickup.
As far the importance of a back-up striker vs. another center-back to rotate with Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano goes, it is tough to gauge as both positions are desperately needed.
It is hard not to let your mind wander when thinking about the seemingly unlimited ceiling of potential for Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala.
The youngster, however, will not be entertained by such thoughts.
“Over the years I’ve learned not to pay too much attention to that. Of course it’s nice to read good things about yourself, but sometimes when things aren’t going well, you have to make sure you’re always in the same rhythm and focus. Experience helps with that,” said Musiala.
Bayern Munich will travel to Mainz 05 for a Bundesliga tilt where head coach Vincent Kompany will have to continue to work through the mini-injury crisis that is going on at the moment.
So far, Kompany has managed it with aplomb…can he keep it going? Let’s talk about all of that and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show. This is what we have on tap:

Didi Hamann might not be shocked if Liverpool FC Mo Salah lands at Bayern Munich next summer, but we would be astonished:
Amid the rumors, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes Bayern Munich could attempt to bring Salah to Germany if his contract situation remains unresolved.
“If Liverpool don’t offer him a contract, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mohamed Salah end up at Bayern Munich,” Hamann said (h/t The Mirror). “At the moment, they’ve got wingers who haven’t really set the world alight on the pitch. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to bring him in. They won’t be the only club either.”
It is really hard to believe that Bayern Munich would go after Salah.
Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinze Rummenigge thinks the club got a little luck to land on Vincent Kompany as its coach last summer.
“I think he will be a lucky find for us. Sometimes fate helps you: the number of rejections that Max Eberl unfortunately had to deal with meant that we may have ended up getting exactly the coach we needed for this team. There are two decisive factors: the team enjoys the style of football — and so do the fans. Football has to be fun. That’s exactly why kids play football in the street. And you can see that in our team too,” Rummenigge told kicker’s Georg Holzner.
Bayern Munich traveled to Gelsenkirchen to take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League and walked away with a convincing 5-1 victory.
Michael Olise scored twice, while Konrad Laimer, Thomas Müller, and Jamal Musiala each had goals in a dominant effort from the Bavarians. Let’s talk about how it all went down and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show. This is what we have on tap:
- A look at the starting XI and what it could mean for Laimer and Leon Goretzka.
- A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
- What a resurgent effort from Müller, while Musiala continued his brilliance.
- Bayern Munich’s attack was much better, but still is not clicking on all cylinders.
- Some final thoughts and takeaways on the match.
Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt is enjoying the time he is spending with Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner. Schmidt knows the attacker will have to make a big choice on his career soon and will be there to help him if needed.
“The decision about his future will be made by FC Bayern and himself. We signed him on loan and want him to leave us as an even better player. That would help all parties. I believe that Paul can play for FC Bayern, Leverkusen or any other top team in the future. I like that at 18 he has a clear plan in mind and how calm he is in dealing with his situation,” said Schmidt.
When asked about Wanner’s future decision on having to pick between Germany and Austria for international play. Schmidt did not want to dip his toes too deep into that water.
“Again – Paul is not our player. So far he has not asked me for advice on that. If he did, I would of course advise him to go to the DFB and would be happy if he decided to stay with Germany,” Schmidt remarked.
One player who has had to be flexible this season at Bayern Munich is Konrad Laimer. A midfielder by trade, the Austrian has had to play right-back to get minutes because of the squad’s midfield depth, but do no expect him to sulk about his status on the team.
“We have so many games with a Club World Cup at the end of the season. Sometimes you have to be patient, even if you don’t want to be,” Laimer told Bild’s Michel Schröer.
Despite his upbeat attitude, it is hard to imagine Laimer will be back next season in Bavaria. In the prime of his career, Laimer needs to be on the field consistently.
The Bundesliga is approaching the end of its Hinrunde stage, and the table is shaping up nicely for Bayern Munich supporters, but worryingly for VfL Bochum supporters.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are among the teams kicking the tires on Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa:
Paris Saint-Germain are facing uncertainty regarding their goalkeeping situation, with questions surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future. If the club chooses to part ways with the 25-year-old, they may need to explore the transfer market for a replacement.
Despite being under contract until 2026, Donnarumma’s performances have been inconsistent, with errors casting a shadow over his time at the club. This could be testing PSG’s patience as they consider their long-term plans for the position.
A January move for a new goalkeeper seems unlikely, but next summer could see the Ligue 1 side searching for a more reliable presence in goal.
Under sporting advisor Luis Campos, PSG have looked toward Portugal to pursue talented players and it seems they might do that to bolster the goalkeeping position. PSG Inside Actus reported on Sunday that the capital club have five goalkeepers on their radar and one of them is Diogo Costa.
The report reveals that the young Portuguese goalkeeper is considered one of the best prospects in his position. His performances in Liga NOS and the UEFA Champions League have caught the attention of major European clubs.
Costa has caught the attention of several top European clubs. According to an October report from CaughtOffside, Bayern Munich is particularly keen on the Porto goalkeeper as they prioritize finding a replacement for Manuel Neuer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is also believed to have been a long-time admirer of Costa’s performances.
This is not the first time that we have heard that Bayern Munich has had interest in Costa. With Manuel Neuer’s health and future a bit uncertain, this will be a situation to keep an sys on.
Arsenal FC could be kicking around the idea of a big move for Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović in January:
Arsenal could make a move to try and sign Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović in January, reports TEAMtalk. The 24-year-old’s Juve contract is set to expire in 2026, which could allow interested clubs to sign him for a cut-price fee. While Arsenal also admire Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, Vlahović is viewed as a more “gettable target” who could be available for as little as $68.5 million in January.
