West Ham United desperately need to move on as much of the deadwood as possible this summer.
Graham Potter is eyeing a big rebuild at West Ham, but he needs to raise funds first in order to bring the players he wants to the London Stadium.
There are quite simply too many players at West Ham right now who aren’t anywhere near good enough to play for the club.
Potter desperately needs to inject some genuine quality and youth into his Hammers squad during the off-season.
The Hammers head coach is in dire need of more pace and power in his central midfield ranks, and attackers with more end product inside the final third.
West Ham signing an elite, ball-playing centre-back this summer will be a necessity as well.
In order to bring in some top-class players though, Potter has been told directly by the board that he has to sell first.
However, the Hammers’ chances of receiving a decent fee for one player has just gone up in smoke.
West Ham’s Maxwel Cornet sale dream has just died
Maxwel Cornet is someone who definitely could fetch a decent fee for the Hammers in the summer.
Genoa manager Patrick Vieira has already raved about the impact the 28-year-old has had with his team.
Cornet joined the Hammers from Burnley in the summer of 2022 for around £17 million.
However, his time at West Ham has been truly dire.
He was shipped out on loan to Southampton in the summer of 2024 but he was sent back in January after a disastrous spell at St Mary’s.

West Ham immediately sent Maxwel Cornet lout on loan to Genoa, and he has actually been a hit for Patrick Vieira’s side, with two goals and an assist in six games so far.
Maxwel Cornet injury scuppers West Ham’s sale hopes
West Ham loanee Maxwel Cornet has suffered a serious injury, with no return date pencilled in just yet.
Cornet picked up a thigh problem during Genoa’s last game – a 1-1 draw with Cagliari in Serie A.
That injury could not have come at a worse time, for Cornet and the Hammers.
If the thigh problem sustained by the 28-year-old is a serious one, our chances of selling him in the summer will shrink rapidly.
Just when one of our loanees started to show some seriously good form, he picks up an injury that will keep him out for quite some time.
It’s so typical for the Hammers isn’t it! And West Ham will surely now struggle to sell Maxwel Cornet in the summer.
