Well we’ve made it all the way to the final game before the March international break. It feels like just yesterday that we were back in October, looking forward to a nice solid interrupted string of club games.
In that run, there were quite a few Chelsea storylines taking place. The results turned nasty, for one thing, and one of the dominant plotlines was to do with our goalkeepers.
Robert Sanchez started making more and more mistakes, and was eventually dropped for Filip Jorgensen. But after Jorgensen fumbled in Aston Villa’s winner, things turned back the other way.
Sanchez started in the Premier League last week, then Jorgensen last night in the Conference League. The manager then confirmed the reversion to the previous pecking order when speaking to the media@
“It will be Robert playing against Arsenal,” Maresca said in his press conference today.
“Since we start, the idea was not to change goalkeeper – but sometimes you have to modify, you have to be flexible in your idea. We do this with the game plan, we do this with the way we want to attack, the way we want to defend, but also we need to be flexible with players.
“I think Robert needed some days off or at least to rest his head mentally. And now he is back we are hopefully not going to change until the end [of the season], also because I said many times we are quite happy with both goalkeepers.”
Maresca’s obvious lie over goalkeeper situation

We’re not quite sure how Maresca can say he’s “happy” with both goalkeepers given he’s actually dropped both of them for poor form in the last few months alone. That’s just a lie, or a distortion of the truth beyond all reality.
We’re repeatedly told in media briefings that the club aren’t looking for a new goalkeeper option this summer, but we remain unconvinced that that’s not just a smokescreen. The fact that Maresca is willing to pretend that he’s happy with both his current options only makes us believe that more.
