Tottenham Hotspur have had their fair share of problems in the middle of the park this season, especially given the dynamism in their options, but Daniel Levy is looking to change that when the summer transfer window comes around as the Lilywhites look to dive into the market to bring in a new midfielder, and they have been looking to bring in English midfielder Angel Gomes linked with a move to N17.
The LOSC Lille midfielder had opted not to renew his current contract at Domaine de Luchin and is set to become a free agent after the conclusion of the ongoing campaign, and this has attracted interest from multiple suitors who are looking to take advantage of this situation and bring in a commendable player who can play multiple roles in the middle of the park.
Recently Fabrizio Romano spoke about the situation of the Man United academy graduate, where the transfer journalist insisted that the 24-year-old is ‘100%’ going to leave Lille, with the Premier League being one of the talked-about destinations.
Man United drop out of Angel Gomes race
Now the recent developments suggest that the North Londoners have got a boost in pursuit of his signature, with Premier League heavyweights Manchester United deciding not to pursue a move for their once-academy graduate, per Football Insider.
Gomes left Carrington base for regular game time and development in 2020 when he joined Lille, but he has made only ten senior appearances at Old Trafford, but he has since shown his potential in the French top tier, where he has become a key player and has also gone on to earn four caps for the England national team.
But it looks like United are not impressed by his growth and success in Ligue 1, and Gomes is not currently on their radar.
On to you now, Levy…
With Manchester Reds out of consideration, this will be a huge advantage to Daniel Levy and to Tottenham as they look to land one of the prized midfielders in that Three Lions team but on a free transfer. West Ham would possibly be another club that would be in competition to sign Gomes, and then comes another question about wages. The midfielder is expected to be demanding a huge fee in the region of £150,000 per week and while this shall not be a problem for a club that flexes the finances of the Premier League’s big six, it is to be seen if Daniel Levy, who has worked hard to maintain the wage bill, will sanction those numbers.
