Everton drew 1-1 with West Ham United on Saturday, and David Moyes has lifted the lid on how he felt when his old favourite Tomas Soucek opened the scoring for the visitors.
Tomas Soucek scored a really well taken goal to put West Ham 1-0 up with around half an hour still to play, but Everton star Jake O’Brien earned a vital point for David Moyes in the end with a 90th minute equaliser.
It was a fairly drab encounter at Goodison Park in all fairness, and the game certainly wasn’t a good advert for the Premier League.
Jarrod Bowen spoke about how hard it is to win away at Everton, and he’s right – it’s always a real battle of attrition against the Toffees on their home turf.
When Tomas Soucek put West Ham 1-0 up though, it seemed like we would cruise to a win against our former manager.
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be in the end.
David Moyes brought Tomas Soucek to West Ham for around £18 million in the summer of 2020, after a successful five-month loan spell at the London Stadium.
And he reminded the Scot on Saturday exactly why he was such a trusted member of his team for four years.
David Moyes on what thought when Tomas Soucek scored for West Ham vs Everton
The 61-year-old did a great job in charge of the Hammers on the whole.
And he has worked wonders at Everton as well, since his return to Goodison Park.
Moyes addressed the media after his side scored a last-gasp goal to earn a point against the Hammers on Saturday.
The former West Ham boss shared how he really felt when Soucek put us in the lead, as quoted by The Independent:

“I’ve had so many moments with the players over the years. Tomas scored, which was a blow to me.“
Moyes clearly rates Soucek very highly.
Although he obviously wouldn’t have wanted the Hammers star to score against his side on Saturday, it would have been hard for him not to feel real pride at the way in which the 30-year-old has established himself at the very highest level of the game.
When the Czech Republic international’s playing days are over, he may well dip his toes into football club ownership.
He recently opened up about potentially buying one of two clubs in his native Czech Republic:
“I’m not saying it won’t happen. It is quite possible,” he said when asked about buying either Viktoria Zizkov or Havlickuv Brod.
“The possibility is there, but I’m putting it off for a few years now. I’m talking about it now with Jiri, rather friendly, what it would be like to play the real Football Manager.“
Tomas Soucek has been a great player for West Ham throughout the past five years, and David Moyes deserves huge credit for bringing him to the club.
Not only is he a clutch player for us, but he’s also a really level-headed, humble man.
Whatever the future holds for him, I’m sure he will be a huge success.
