England coach Thomas Tuchel has expressed his anticipation to work with Harry Kane again.
The ex-Bayern Munich coach is now only days away from his first games as England head coach, and he will no doubt be relying on his captain, who had bailed him out countless times during his short stint in Bavaria.
“Pleasure to work with him,” said Tuchel. “We have a proven goalscorer at the highest level. Of course we have a lot of expectations because we know him already. It will be a lot of extra responsibility on his shoulders, but Harry is someone who proves that he can handle that.”
Tuchel went on to praise Kane and his exploits for Bayern this season. “This is the way to go forward – we’re happy to have him back, have him in good shape,” he said. “He’s in the [Champions League] quarter-finals, he’s on his way to a title in the domestic league with Bayern, so it’s a clear choice.”
Having secured direct promotion to League A of the Nations League, and being exempt from the playoffs, England will be starting their World Cup qualifying run earlier than other European nations. Their group contains Andorra, Serbia, Latvia, and Albania, the latter two whom they will face in the coming international break.
Juppel – er, Tuchel, will be hoping that Kane is fit and firing for England just as he is at Bayern as he aims to outdo his predecessor Gareth Southgate’s impressive stint as national coach.
